Robb Report’s Top 50 Greatest Luxury Hotels on Earth
Robb Report has just released its lannual Top 50, with four inclusions from Baillie Lodges.
Nestled among Lord Howe Island’s gently swaying kentia palms, the Capella Spa is a private sanctuary offering a balm to the bustle of every-day life. As part of Capella’s 2018 makeover the spa was reimagined in a loft setting, towards the ocean. Linocuts, artworks and textiles with a distinctly Mambo-feel by artist Bruce Goold feature in the beach-house style retreat, while fabrics created exclusively for the spa by island resident Sarah Jordan complete a relaxed vibe.
The Capella Spa uses the Li’Tya range of spa care products and massage techniques. Taking the Indigenous meaning ‘of the earth’, Li’Tya combines the natural qualities of the Australian earth, sea and spirit with traditional indigenous massage practices. Capella spa therapists are specially trained by Li’Tya on the traditional use of Australian native ingredients and ensure the Aboriginal teachings remain true within the spa environment.
Each Li’Tya treatment at the Capella Spa is designed to help guests to reinvigorate to generate their own health and balance from within. The profound wisdom and spiritualty of ancient Indigenous medicines and healing modalities, communicated over generations is incorporated in a holistic approach to wellness. The Li’Tya spa experience combines a whole range of sensory therapies designed to purify, nourish and harmonise the body.
“Guests emerge from the Capella Spa more relaxed than ever, ready to soak in the pristine beauty of Lord Howe Island and another day in paradise.”
A menu of rejuvenating spa treatments also embraces Lord Howe’s natural environment. The Sacred Stone Therapy treatment draws upon the power of heated basalt stones collected from the island’s windward beaches. The warmth of the rocks and carefully-placed crystals work with the body’s pressure points to dissolve tension and bring body, mind and soul into balance.
For tired and weary legs or a post-hike feet treat, Gower’s Foot Treatment soaks away tensions in both soul and soles. A foot-mask of Tasmanian kelp and native pepperberry is applied to gently exfoliate and polish, while small, warm basalt stones are placed between the toes. The experience leaves guests feeling revitalised and light of step.
The Capella Spa’s ultimate indulgence is the three-hour Dreaming, a complete face and body treatment with a pearl and kelp body wrap, Kodo massage and the option of either a facial or treatments focusing on the hands and feet. Nourishing Australian native plant essential oils are used alongside cleansing earth ochres and purifying desert salts to heal, invigorate and restore body, mind and soul.
Guests emerge from the Capella Spa more relaxed than ever, ready to soak in the pristine beauty of Lord Howe Island and another day in paradise.
