World Heritage-listed Lord Howe Island is part of New South Wales and is located just 700 kilometres – or a short two-hour flight – from Australia’s east coast. The tiny island is just eleven kilometres in length, with a crescent shaped lagoon home to the world’s southernmost coral reef. Warm currents flow southwards from the Coral Sea, making diving or snorkelling straight from the beach an easy option, where a vibrant submarine world is home to a kaleidoscope of corals, tropical fish and turtles. A range of hikes take in subtropical rainforests, mountaintops and pristine beaches.

General Manager Sarah Cruse returned to Clayoquot as General Manager for the 2020 season. In the interim, Sarah has enjoyed a successful term leading Dunton Hot Springs in Dolores, Colorado. Sarah has nearly 20 years of experience leading luxury experiential resorts, including a decade at the helm of Peninsula Hotels’ Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel, California. Sarah’s passion for Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge will ensure the lodge continues to be recognised as a world class travel and adventure destination.
Staff Lifestyle
The staff village at Clayoquot is located two kilometres up the river from The Outpost. A fun-loving, tight-knit community of around a hundred employees, the lodge’s remote location is a catalyst for an incredibly social environment. Staff are welcome to remain onsite on their days off to make the most of their incredible backyard, as well as included meals and complimentary accommodation. Born and raised in New Zealand, Huka Lodge General Manager Kerry Molloy has been at the helm of the prestigious property since 2014, after a career in high-end hospitality and as manager of some of the country’s most esteemed luxury lodges. Kerry’s first job as a porter paved the way for a stint in the hotel industry in London for 14 years. Stopping by in Sydney on the way through to work at the Intercontinental Hotel, Kerry then worked at New Zealand’s trio of Robertson Lodges before landing at home at Huka Lodge. Working here, he says is like being on a movie set: lots of action behind the scenes and blissful tranquillity out the front.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will train and develop your team to achieve high standards of cleanliness. You will be a housekeeping leader with a passion for empowering, developing and motivating your team to succeed. Your energetic and flexible leadership style will complement your skillset in compliance, manual handling and safe work practices – perhaps you’ll even lead the morning stretches with Zumba!
You’ll be a rostering guru and will ensure effective cost control through monitoring expenses. The Role:
Your office is the outdoors, and you enjoy bringing people together to explore some of Australia’s most beautiful unspoilt wilderness. Where your day is spent being a true host to our guests, deliver high-quality tours and create the ultimate itinerary for all guests.
You’ll have extensive knowledge of Australian animals and plants, ideally those that are endemic to Kangaroo Island. Additionally, your understanding of the local history and indigenous culture will provide a balanced, educational experience for our guests.

- Proven experience as a naturalist guide
- Extensive knowledge of native flora, fauna and ecology, and the ability to provide relevant information and interpretation to guests
